Acupuncture
Acupuncture has been used in Chinese Medicine for thousands of years. Originally, 9 different types of needle were used, however today we mostly use just one. This is the single use filiform needle, made from surgical steel (and sometimes silver or gold where appropriate).
The needles are inserted at points along charted pathways we call meridians or channels, which flow at different depths throughout the body. These meridians flow from one into another creating a network of flow from the surface of the body to the depths within, influencing all the systems of body including Respiration, Digestion, Circulation, Endocrine, Lymphatic and Neurological.
Flow in Chinese Medicine, is referring to the flow of Qi (pronounced Chee). Qi is the intrinsic energy that is viewed as being universally present, within and without.
Qi has a myriad of manifestations, whether its solid forms such as crystals, rock, bones and teeth, the less dense blood, tissue, sinews and organs or the lighter ethereal forms of gases, electromagnetic and kinetic energy, radio waves/ frequencies and even our thoughts and emotions.
The insertion of needles along the continuum of meridian pathways gently influences this energy to create flow, restore balance and clear blockages on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels.
